Summary:

A mountain town in rural Tohoku, where the traditions of the Matagi hunters are upheld during spring. Nobuyuki, a 20-year-old who assists his parents' work after graduating high school, finds himself growing tired of the closed-off lifestyle in this area but continues to go with the flow day by day.

One day, during a gathering of the Matagi hunters, the leader, Shimoyama, who commands the bear hunts, unexpectedly delivers surprising news to everyone. He says, "It seems that our application didn't go through this year." He explains that due to the decrease in bear population, the local authorities have issued a ban on bear hunting for this year. Violating this ban would be considered poaching and would close off the path of living as a Matagi. While everyone is disappointed, they reluctantly accept the decision. However, Nobuyuki's senior, Reijiro, stubbornly refuses to accept it.

On another day, Nobuyuki is called by Reijiro and is informed about a secret plan to challenge the bear hunt together, just the two of them...
